Some of Hollywood’s most stylish young women have been baring it all- natural hair color, that is. Stylists are calling it two-toned hair- where “roots” are grown out to about 30% of your hair and the ends are significantly lighter.
The look definitely plays into the beachy, boho, I-don’t-care-hair, but I’m a little confused. Why would you possibly want to look like you’ve been lazing on your touch-ups? Like the black bra/white tank trend, this is another one of those “White Trash Chic” styles I will never understand. If I had the money to get my hair done every week, you’d never see a hint of natural color again! You’d never see me in my natural state, period.
Lauren Conrad even admitted to choosing the style because she hates getting her hair done. Fair enough, LC, but if anyone has the time/money/decency to avoid looking like her ponytail got dunked in a bucket of bleach, it’s you!
This is truly a sign of the times, where any put-together style is deemed “stuffy” and we put in effort to look as though we don’t care (Ugg boots, anyone?) I would suggest adding just a few highlights to balance out the harsh contrast, and to avoid looking like you hate washing your hair as much as you hate dying it.

AMEN!! I have been waiting for someone to say this! What are these ladies thinking??? I hate this!
There’s nothing wrong with one’s natural color so long as all of the hair is the natural color. Two-toned hair is just ridiculous.
I totally agree with Deb. And yes, this look just make them look greasssssy
LC’s isn’t that bad. I think that’s partially because the ends are so close to her natural color that it just looks like she’s standing in a shadow.
The others just look greasy and gross.
This is the worst “trend” ever. People are actually paying money for this…bad dye job? Don’t they get how dumb this is? “I’d like to pay to look like I have horrible roots please.”
HATE.
I’m not a fan of the look at all, but I have to confess that I did sport some grown out highlights for a while. It was after my son was born and I threw a box of permanent color over my strands and was so tired I didn’t give a hoot about what it looked like. Yikes! And THAT is why I still haven’t colored my hair yet!
It disturbs me that people would pay to look like they have regrowth, though Rachel Bilson and Lauren Conrad don’t look half as bad as Drew Barrymore does with it
