It’s the middle of May and the temperatures are wildly varying throughout the USA. In some parts of the country it’s bitterly cold, while in Southern California we are experiencing outrageous heat that’s topped off with added warmth from neighboring wildfires. In short, it’s hot, yo!
While there are many who adore the 99 degrees PLUS weather we’ve had all week, I prefer a decidedly cooler environment. I have 99 problems but an ice blast wouldn’t be one. One thing I know for sure is that hot weather makes keeping your beauty routine intact a bit of a challenge. The words melted and oil slick are just part of the season. While sometimes you just have to go with it, here are 9 of my top hot weather beauty solutions that will help you keep things together.
1. Clay masks are your new best friend.
If you are the normal to oily variety, or just find yourself battling more oil on your skin than usual, may I suggest using a clay mask about 2-3 times a week. It all starts with your skin, and I find that using a clay mask helps even things out in a big way. I like the Aztec Clay Mask, and right now have been testing and loving one by Mary Kay that will be getting a full review, soon.
2. Use a dry touch sunscreen.
SPF is very important and a dry touch sunscreen acts as a fantastic primer that will help keep the oilies at bay. Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Dry Touch is a great choice and offers a broad spectrum sunscreen.
For those who have major oil production issues and need the big guns, the lightest touch of MOM before your makeup is a sure win for makeup that won’t melt off. Don’t slather this on, just a dab’ll do ya.
4. Model in a Bottle = pure genius.
Dumb makeup confession of the day: Years and years and years ago I sprayed my entire face with HAIRSPRAY when I needed it to last. The results were awful on my skin, which is why I love Model in a Bottle so much. This is extremely gentle and it WORKS! Your makeup will stay put all the live long day, and it’s perfect for preserving eye makeup.
5. Setting Sprays = another act of pure genius.
I tend to use Model in a Bottle on my eyes and reach for setting sprays like Skindinavia’s and e.l.f.’s to set my foundation and give it a dewy look as well as refresh my skin throughout the day. Bonus points, stick the sprays in the fridge.
6. Blotting Papers
The blotting papers by Clean and Clear are a must have in my purse and help eliminate oil slicks. In a pinch, you can use toilet seat covers to sop up oil or brown recycled paper towels, like the kinds you’d find at Starbucks. For added glam, I love the papers by Mai Couture that leave blush, bronzer, or shimmer behind!
7. BB Creams are magic!
Heavy coverage foundation has it’s time and place, but not so much during heat waves. I love the coverage that BB Creams offer, as well as the SPF. I adore Missha’s which gives me such life it’s not even funny. L’Oreal Youth Code BB Cream in medium is my second runner up.
8. Translucent Powder will be your new best friend.
MAC’s loose Invisible Set powder and pressed Blot Powder in Medium Dark are two of my hot weather must haves. I’ve yet to find products that work so well to keep things together.
9. Seal your cream products with a matching power.
Sometimes creamy eyeliners and the like take a life of their own, especially in the heat. Use a matching powder on top of your cream eyeliners to ensure they won’t pull a disappearing act.
What are some of your hot weather beauty solutions? I’d love to know!
