Top 9 Drugstore Eye Makeup Must Haves

Press Sample I Bought It

By Sheila Arkee

Although I got my start as a makeup lover buying products at the drugstore, it wasn’t until recently that I began to really appreciate items that cost around $10 and under.

Top 9 Drugstore Eye Makeup Must Haves

The quality and value of drugstore makeup has definitely come a long way in recent times, and there are many must-haves that are just as great (and sometimes even more so) than products costing beaucoup bucks. Here are my top 9 must have eye makeup beauty products that are readily available at mass market retailers, including CVS, Rite Aid, Target, and Ulta stores.

1. Target Up and Up Crease Brush
Target Up And Up Crease Brush (1)

This $2 brush is one of the best brushes I have ever used for blending color in the crease of my eye and the outer “v”, or what I call the outer corner. Admittedly the brush isn’t that well constructed and I’ve had to glue the handle back, but it’s just $2 so it’s easily to replace and stock up on these brushes.

2. Prestige Primed & Ready Eyeshadow Primer

Prestige Primd & Ready Eyeshadow Primer

Before this eyeshadow primer, I thought the only options for making my eye shadow last all day and night were strictly higher end. You won’t fail with Primed & Ready, and your eyeshadow will stay vivid and true for hours on end.

3. L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara

I never believed a drugstore mascara could provide such incredibly lush lashes, but it’s true, this is absolutely fantastic. The brush is easier to navigate around your lashes than you’d think!

4. Milani Total Lash Cover Mascara

Sporting another interesting looking brush, this mascara is $5 and worth every single penny and more. Lush lashes guaranteed!

5. Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadows

Although there have been some pigmentation issues with limited edition releases, you cannot fail with the permanent Wet n Wild Color Icon trios or 8-pan palettes. Also, the single Color Icon shadow in Nutty is a must have for every makeup user!

6. NYX Cosmetics Slide-On Eye Liners

These are dupes for Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide On Liners in terms of consistence and performance. You will not be disappointed with these liners that slide right on and give great color.

7. Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Eyeshadows

Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Eyeshadow in Godl Rush

Oh, how I adore these cream shadows which do not fade or crease, unlike the ones from Revlon which are just plain awful. Wear Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Eyeshadows on their own, or layered with coordinating powder eyeshadow.

8. Milani Shadow Eyez Eyeshadow Pencils

I love and depend on chubby shadow pencils to help enhance the look of my eyeshadow looks and you can’t get much better than Milani’s versions which are also great to wear alone or layered with powder shadows.

9. Rimmel Scandaleyes Kohls

Rimmel Scandaleyes Kohl Liners

Creamy, pigmented, and so easy to apply, these are kohl eyeliners that blow higher-end versions out of the water. I am constantly gravitating towards Sparkling Black, a deep black with a fine silver glitter

Read your list and found myself saying “Check, check, check!” Those Color Tattoos are a game changer for those of us with oily lids. I’d also add the ELF blush/bronzer duo “St. Lucia”, and the Physician’s Formula “Simmer Strips” twist-up eyeliners. Great list!

I own a wet n wild color icon palette, and it’s my most used non-high end palette.

I really love everything you mentioned except for the mascaras – haven’t tried those yet! Have you tried the Jordana version of the Milani pencils? Exact same parent company & more budget friendly!

  • Janella Steele

My Real Techniques brushes! I have the eye set and the core collection. They are really great for the price.

I’m also really loving Essence right now. They came out with a really cute line called ‘Love Letters’ which is all pastels. I got the eyeshadow, highlighting powder and a gray nail polish called Grey-Headed Love Bird.

I have TONS of Wet N Wild eyeshadow. The one I use every day (and have for years) is ‘Walking on Eggshells’. I also really love the pink in ‘Sweet As Candy’.
