Top 10 Reader Favorite Posts From 2013

Press Sample I Bought It

By Sheila Arkee

Happy New Year! 2014 I am so happy to see you and I feel really excited about what’s ahead. For the first day of the year I thought it would be fun to take a look back at the most popular posts published this year. There are a few that surprised me!

Painted Ladies 2013 Readers Favorites

1. Breaking Down Beauty: A Contouring, Highlighting, & Major Smoky Eyes Tutorial

By far one of the most popular posts in Painted Ladies history, published way back in January 2013, also one of the most pinned on Pinterest. Thank you for keeping this going! I truly enjoy creating Breaking Down Beauty posts and hope to do more this year.

2. Vaseline Lip Therapy Rosy Lips Has Arrived

I’m a little surprised by how popular this post has been in the short time that it’s been published. It really is a great product and I hope everyone is enjoying their $2 wonder balm.

3. Breaking Down Beauty: 3 Easy Techniques For Successful False Eyelash Application

This is a post that I had wanted to complete for some time and I’m glad it’s been so helpful for so many!

4. Make Up For Ever Pro Finish Powder Foundation Review

This is another one of my favorite finds from 2013 that I neglected to review in my top finds post, but gee, it sure is terrific. This is one of the greatest powder foundations I’ve ever used and I wear it often during my day-to-day life. Coverage and then some.

5. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Etheral Light

You have heard me wax poetic about this finishing powder for hours. It really is that great!

6. NYX Incredible Waterproof Concealer Stick Is Budget Friendly Bliss

A reader gave me the heads up on this concealer and I’m thankful, because I’ve since found out that NYX makes some pretty great peach-toned concealers!

7. L.A. Girl Pro Conceal HD Concealers

These really are all that and a bag of chips. Snag ’em!

8. Get Gorgeous, Glossy, Great Smelling Nails With Revlon Perfumerie Scented Nail Enamel

From the packaging to the scent, these new polishes are simply adorable.

9. High Smudging Ahead! Physicians Formula Custom Shimmer Strips Eye Enhancing Kohl Kajal Eyeliner Trio

One of my least favorite products of the year. So glad I was able to give you all a heads up on it’s smudginess!

10. Breaking Down Beauty: Green and Gold Smoky Eye Tutorial

Sometimes I look at my facial expressions in past photos and feel somewhat embarrassed. Eh, it happens. :) This simple shadow tutorial is a great way to wear some color, though!

Do you write down annual goals? Here are my goals for Painted Ladies in 2014.  I believe in dreaming BIG!

1. Finally update the look of the site.

2. Be published in InStyle and Allure.

3. Invest in a good lighting system so I can take photos at night.

4. Do at least one YouTube tutorial or video per week.

6. Invest in better video equipment.

7. Invest in a new lens and photography equipment to take my photos to the next level.

8. Do more Breaking Down Beauty posts and makeup tutorials.

9. Be more creative with my photographs.

10. Do more nail related posts.

On a personal note, I ended 2013 by sending in my very last car payment! That was a huge accomplishment and it feels like a huge weight is off my shoulders. It also gives me that extra money to invest in my 2014 goals for Painted Ladies, so I’m really excited! Here’s to a wonderful 2014 for all of us!

I create goals for myself and my family. I have two blogs :( lol I’m crazy! Plus, I work full-time and do makeup… I need goals to keep me balanced. Great post :)

That green and gold smokey eye = love!

I always set goals, but rarely stick to them. This year, I’ve decided I’m not going to set any – and just take things as they come!

  • MyBeautyJunction

I love the green and gold EOTD as well! I’m with you on photography but even with a DSLR, my photos are awful!

What a great way to recap the year, and give direction into the next.

I do write down goals, some are followed to the letter.. others less so, but I feel more organized when I can see it written down, rather than just floating about in my head.

I’m going to head over to that NYX Concealer review, very intrigued!!

Great list!! The Breaking Down Beauty posts are so helpful!

  • FabZilla_Kath

Breaking down is one of my faves! All the best to you in 2014!

Great breakdown! I remember reading your contouring guide, it was my favorite post, too :)

  • marciaf

I love your breaking down beauty posts. I think i’ll share that first one on Sunday if I haven’t done it already. I think those are so helpful.

  • Farryn

Great combo of all your posts! Loved reading though them. Happy New Year!

  • Nidia Doherty

Love these posts. I don’t understand those Physician Formula Kajal pencils – I bought a set of them, and there is so much product showing that I accidentally broke it right away. And they smudge too? Meh.

  • Shelley Polarbelle

The LA Girl concealor is THE BEST PRODUCT EVERRRR, expecially for the price. It’s amazing.
