With nearly 9 years of beauty blogging under my belt, you bet your boy howdy there’s a vast amount of archived makeup looks to revisit. Sometimes in horror!
Makeup has changed a lot over the near decade this blog has been in existence. When I started what would be 4 years of a 365 days of makeup challenge (see here) I don’t think anyone in the online beauty world was using the ring lights we now hold so near and dear. And contouring? It wasn’t a thing! Instagram didn’t even exist until 8 years ago, and even then things were different.
Thanks to Pinterest, I’m able to see that people are still pinning (and liking) looks I created way back in the day. Thank you, whoever you are! My makeup techniques have definitely evolved since the early days and I guess I’d say I’m bolder with my application.
The orginial look was on day 98 of the first year of the 365 Days Of Eyeshadow (it turned into 365 Days Of Makeup in year 2) and it features a red-toned brown, shimmery pink and shimmery champagne. I only showed my eyes back them, and you want to know why? To save time! Ha ha! I’d do two separate looks on both of my eyes and then photograph each one. I’d rarely do my foundation or blush to save time. And now you know!
For the back then look, I used MAC shadows that I still own, but cannot currently locate. I’ve moved since the original look and have reorganized several times. I know where they are, generally, but looking for them would open a whole can of worms so it’s best to let them stay at rest for the moment. It challenged me to use new, similar shadows for the updated look, which are a mix of Makeup Geek and ColourPop eyeshadows.
Back then I used MAC Folie in the Outer Corner, MAC Swish as the pink on my lids, and MAC All That Glitters on my inner lid with MAC Smoulder To Line. For this updated look, I used Makeup Geek Cherry Cola on my outer corner, an unknown ColourPop eyeshadow (sorry!), Makeup Geek Glamorous on my inner lid and Makeup Geek Beaches & Cream on my browbone. The look is finished of with Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Pencil in Zero and Lipstick Queen Hot Rose on my lips.
It was fun to take this look back and with over 4 years of looks to go back to, you know I’ll be doing this again! P.S. If I haven’t told you, thank you for riding with Painted Ladies all these years!
