The $70 Concealer Conundrom

By Sheila Arkee

As an all-around fanatic about cosmetics, I don’t tend to be prejudiced when it comes down to the price of my products. I’ll use a $1 product just as easily as I’ll use something a hundred times more expensive, just as long as it works as promised!

With that being said, I have to call your attention to the highly lauded Cle De Peau Concealer. You know, the one in the fancy blue tube that always ends up on magazine best lists? It’s the cool kid in town, and I do believe the high price tag adds a lot to its mystique.

Old style packaging!

I acquired a tube of Cle de Peau’s concealer through possibly one of the best makeup swaps I’ve ever participated in; I had a rare product to offer for swap to another makeup junkie, and before I knew it the concealer I’d lusted over for years was in my cosmetic grubbing hands.

Long story short? Eh, this concealer is just OK. Its creamy and it’s opaque, yes, but not necessarily better than concealers that are a lot, lot, lot less expensive.

Ochre as swatched on my arm.

The colors are extremely limited to three choices, and besides that, they are yellow-toned. Yellow-toned concealers just don’t look good under the eyes, and for more on that you can look back at this Breaking Down  Beauty about concealer placement.

Of course, with all products, someone else’s experience might be different than mine, but in my experience I’ve found that with Cle de Peau’s concealer, you’re paying for the name, the prestige, and super pricey packaging, not necessarily results!

What are some of your favorite luxury beauty items?
