Could they offer some tips and advice to our readers have decided that 2010 is the year they will pursue their dream of becoming a makeup artist?

Never give up! Also, never be late to any job!  The first impression is the last impression. Take any job you can and work with as many people you can at first to get your skills up to par.

My best advice  is to get a job at a counter so that you can practice everyday you are at work.  I would suggest one of the more creative lines like MAC where they offer some training.  Every client that walks in is a potential customer, they should sit as many down as they can and practice!

For the more serious makeup artists, definitely assisting someone who is already where you want to be.  Don’t be afraid of contacting them, the worst they can say is no.
