This review is going to be a little bit different, since I’m going to skip right to the punchline and tell you straight up that Illuminare foundation ROCKS!!!!!
Ok, now on to a little story. Picture it: it’s the early 2000’s and a young cosmetics sales girl is helping a customer choose a foundation. “I don’t know why I’m even buying this,” the customer says. “My friend is coming out with a new foundation and it’s really good. It’s called Illuminare.”
Despite knowing about Illuminare for quite some time, I didn’t have the opportunity to try it until recently. Having heard nothing but positive reviews about this full coverage, liquid mineral foundation, I was eager to find out if it really lived up to its reputation.
I’m pleased to report that it did, and then some! Having somewhat difficult skin, I’m always a little wary about foundations. I used the Illuminare Fantastic Finish (moisturizing) formula, which is fuller coverage than what I usually use, but so incredibly smooth and lightweight that it doesn’t really feel like you’re wearing anything at all. The foundation blends well, doesn’t settle into your pores, and looks so incredible natural. To boot, it has a true SPF of 21 and offers UVA/UVB protection.
To apply, I tested application with both my fingers as well as the the signature leopard-print Illuminare Fast Application Pad. I have to say that their special sponge actually did make application go faster with great coverage.
Just a little dot of foundation is all that is needed, and you can rinse it afterwards using a mild detergent and water.
Here’s me before using the foundation, complete with mild rosacea and splotchiness:
Here’s me after:
The foundation has helped smooth my skin, give it a little bit of a glow, and has successfully concealed my redness and bumps with nary a concealer needed to help.
Illuminare Foundation comes in three formulas – moisturizing, mattifying, and concealing . The full size is $27, and considering how little you need, that will go a long way. A MAC NC40, I chose Sienna Sun as my color, and it was pretty right on. The color selections are limited, so Illuminare offers some genius sample packs for $10, which allow you to test the proper color and formula.
Illuminare is high quality liquid mineral foundation that is free of mica, bismuth oxychloride, and parabens. It is perfect for people who are recovering from laser surgery or chemical peels, and also fantastic for anyone else! For more information, visit http://www.illuminarecosmetics.com/.
