Six Months Of Daily Collagen Peptides Intake – Is There A Skincare Difference?

It’s been a bit over six months since I’ve been taking collagen peptides on a daily basis and definitely time for an update! After an extended use of including collagen peptides in my daily health care routine, have I seen the difference they purportedly give to my hair, skin, nails and joints? The answer is yes! First, a little bit of the back story on how I became a collagen peptide powder devotee before I get into the nitty gritty.
As I’m approaching my fourth decade, I’ve definitely noticed some areas of my body in need of some tender, loving care. While my face is still as oily as ever, the skin on my arms and legs is more dry. My hair definitely isn’t as lush as it was in my 20’s (why, how, why?), and my nails … well, they’re a whole story unto themselves. I’ve always had psoriasis under my nails, which I’ve been self conscious of, but have learned how to conceal pretty well. Keeping them maintained and polished is key! I’ve also had issues with my nails splitting and peeling, which is another major reason I wanted to use collagen peptides.
Another reason I was interested in trying collagen peptides was for gut health. I’d spent a year drinking bone broth on a daily basis for this purpose, but decided to take a break for a couple of reasons, mainly the expense! If you don’t have the time or wherewithal to make bone broth at home (like me), purchasing prepared bone broth is pricey! The collagen peptides I’ve been using is under $30 for a jar that lasts well over a month of once daily use.
I pre-portion my collagen peptide powder and put it in snack size ziploc bag. I typically mix it into my daily coffee, but I can’t make hot coffee for whatever reason, I find that the powder dissolves quite nicely in warm water and whatever else I add to the mix, typically a greens powder from Amazing Grass. I turned a friend onto the collagen peptides I’m using and she did thorough research on this non-GMO powder that’s derived from cow hides. While I can’t detect a taste to the collagen peptides, some do if it’s mixed with just plain water.
The biggest difference I see after over six months of daily collagen peptide use is in my nails. They are better than ever! They’re not splitting and they are easier to handle than ever. I’m truly impressed with how the overall quality of my nails has improved. My skin is looking smooth, and I’ve even received a few compliments about how my skin looks. I’ll take it! I’m honestly not sure if there’s a major difference in my hair, but it’s growing and feels healthy.
My Final Thoughts: Will I keep taking collagen peptide powder on a daily basis? Yes! The improvements are worth the results I’ve seen, especially in the overall improved quality of my nails. I’m using this brand of collagen peptides which are available on Amazon for under $30.
