I purchased the Sephora Play subscription box featured in this post. All opinions are 100% my own.
You win some, you lose some, and in the case of the Sephora Play beauty subscription box for April 2017, it’s more of a lose some situation.
I think saying “lose some” is too harsh of a statement to attach to this installment of Sephora Play, because in totality it isn’t all that bad – just a tad bit disappointing in comparison to the greatness that has been seen in previous months of this subscription service.
Sephora Play is relatively new on the block, and at a whopping cost of $10.81 (tax included), I’ve found that it was totally worth cancelling my Ipsy subscription for. Each month you receive 5 deluxe samples of makeup, hair care, or skincare products along with a perfume sample. You also receive a card that entitles you to 50 extra Beauty Insider points with any in-store purchase, as well as a free one-on-one tutorial.
The items in the Sephora Play box come in a super cute satchel and an illustrated brochure explaining more about the products and giving suggested tips for using them. While products do vary per subscriber, generally all boxes have similar items. Here’s what I received in my Sephora Play Step It Up Box for April 2017.
Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Vitamin C Anti-Aging Collagen Booster – I’ve had this before and really like it, so I’m glad to use this again.
Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic + Retinol Wrinkle Recovery Peel – There are two pads to try, and I’m actually looking forward to testing it out.
Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish Foundation Primer – I have to admit I’m not the greatest fan of this primer. Using it leads my skin to clogged pore city!
Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Eye Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner – My eyes just don’t like waterproof liners, so I’m passing this one along.
Sephora Collection Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover – I’m looking forward to trying this as well, especially since it’s supposed to strengthen your lashes with vitamins and extracts.
Juliette Has A Gun by Not A Perfume – A crisp, clean fragrance I’ll be trying out.
On another topic, have you been shopping the Spring sale at Sephora that’s on until April 22nd? Rouge members get 20% off, VIBs get 15% off and Beauty Insiders get 10% off. I picked up a gloss to take advantage of my Sephora Play extra points, but I have to admit I was more enthused about the 20% plus 5x extra points on Urban Decay products that I scored at Ulta over the weekend. More and more these days I’m team Ulta and talking to some other beauty lovers it seems the sentiment is the same. I’m hoping Sephora steps up their rewards game as a response!
My Final Thoughts: All in all there are definitely products I’ll use and enjoy, but this is one of the more lackluster Sephora Play boxes – no major complaints, but I’m looking forward to seeing what’s ahead in May.
