Product Fail: e.l.f. Under Eye Concealer & Highlighter

By Sheila Arkee

Although I’ve been entrenched in my favorite concealer for years, I’ve decided it’s time to start expanding my horizons. This won’t be an easy task because MAC’s NW25 Select Moisturecover is my official holy grail. In fact, MAC NW25 is the perfect shade to battle my tired eyes in any formula.

Passing by an e.l.f. display at Target I decided to give their Under Eye Concealer & Highlighter a chance, because $3 is hard to beat and the shades all have a pink-ish hue, just what you need for those dark areas.

In this photo you can see MAC NW25 at the far left, with the e.l.f. swatches to the left.

The formula of the concealer is far too lightweight for my liking. The coverage is minimal, leaving much to be desired. I chose shade Medium, which was the darkest available and still too light for me.

The highlighter is a different story – the lightweight texture is perfect for lifting up the planes of your face, and I like the fact that it is not shimmery and blendable.

The final verdict? Pass, pass, pass. I’m still searching for the perfect drugstore concealer, but in the meanwhile I’ll stick with my non-drugstore holy grail.

I actually use this concealer and highlighter any time i wear NYX Snow White lipstick, which is a dark red. I conceal right around my lips with the concealer, then apply the lipstick. After the lipstick is applied and blotted I put a dot of the highlighter on my lower lip and squish it around a bit. Perfect lightened up lip, but still rich and beautiful.

That is a great way to use this! Pefect for around the lips, thanks for the suggestion!

I like the Revlon PhotoReady Primer. I suspect it’s supposed to be an eyelid primer, but it reminds me a lot of YSL Touche Eclat. It’s the perfect peachy brightness to brighten up the undereye are and doesn’t let any concealer I use settle into creases.
Even better, no sparkle (weird for PhotoReady)
