If there’s one makeup collection I’ve been positively drooling over in anxious anticipation, it’s the namesake makeup brought to us by the great makeup artist Pat McGrath. I’ve been yearning to try out some of her beautiful makeup products, so took advantage of a recent Sephora special to pick up Pat McGrath Luxetrance Lipstick in Donatella.
If there’s one thing you need to know about me, it’s that I’m highly obsessed with the 90’s. It’s the decade when I was a teenager and fully invested in the era of the supermodels, super designers, and super neutral makeup most made famous by the late (and timeless and incredible) Kevyn Aucoin.
If there’s one thing you need to know about Pat McGrath, it’s that she’s a beauty junkie just like us! I read that she has a 4,000 foot storage facility that holds all of her makeup. That’s admirable dedication! She is truly passionate about makeup, and that is something that comes out in the design of her beauty products that are available through Sephora.
For instance, look at this outer packaging! Amazing!
There are some makeup boxes I never throw away, and this definitely qualifies. My goodness, the detail on this box with the envelope clasp closure is stunning.
And then there’s the actual lipstick itself – this is luxe metal that’s worthy of being put on display. The clasp has a firm metallic snap! which makes it that much more glamorous.
The acutal color of Pat McGrath Luxtrance Lipstick in Donatella most definitely hearkens back to those glorious 90’s days that so many of us loved so well.
The texture is smooth, the color is long-wearing, the pigmentation is divine and it’s definitely a lovely lipstick.
But is it worth $38? That’s a whole lotta moolah for a little lipstick.
Girl, no. My mind isn’t so blown by this lipstick that I’m blind to the price tag, which is hefty. I have to say it’s overpriced for what it is, but I’m not going to return it. I’m also not going to chomp at the bit to buy another one but will enjoy it for what it is as long as I can. And never get rid of the tube or the packaging!
My Final Thoughts:Pat McGrath Luxtrance Lipstick in Donatella is what I’d call a collectors piece. And I’ll keep the tube after the lipstick is done to use a trick I learned from Dita Von Teese – freeze another lipstick so it’s easy to replace in the tube!
