Out of Africa: A Shea Butter Experience

By Sheila

By now I think you know how highly I regard beauty companies that do their part to give back to the world – I really admire them for stepping outside of themselves and making a concerted effort to give money to those who are in need.

So it is with Out of Africa, a line of some incredible skin care products made out of organic, vitamin-rich, and paraben-free shea butter. The company gives back a certain percentage – 5 to 15 cents – from every item to the support many co-ops and funds, including the Benin Educational Fund, which directly benefits children in West Africa and gives them the opportunity to be educated.

Before I got into the products, take a look at a short video explaining what the company is all about. It’s also a fascinating look at how the shea butter is extracted.

Cool, huh? Now, on to the products. Here’s a peek at just a small portion of what the company offers:

Lip balm – this is right up my alley. It has an interesting texture, very creamy and moisturizing and different than any other lip balm I’ve tried.  It feels different than a beeswax-based lip balm, but melts on your lips. Also, look how much bigger it is than a standard lip balm!

Perfect for underneath lip colors and really nice for protecting your lips from this cold winter weather, plus you can use it to spot moisturize on your face when needed.

Hand cream – I loooove this. It’s not sticky, no residue, and does not irritate my eczema! The packaging looks like aluminum, but does not crinkle up like a typical aluminum tube, which is a great feature, in my opinion.

Body wash – oooh, aah! Not only is the lemon verbena scent  I tried out of this world, it is really rich and feels so luxe. No residue afterwards, and didn’t irritate my eczema. Also comes in lavender and grapefruit scents.

Baby soap – I used this unscented bar on my 2 year old son and loved how it felt so rich and moisturized his skin. I also feel good knowing that no parabens are involved.

The prices for all of the products are very reasonable, and you can find them online or at many national retailers.

Here’s the best part about it all … we’re hosting a contest!

Yes, I know we’re already doing an anniversary contest, but hey, it IS our anniversary, and what better way to show you all how much we love you (and we do!).

Simply leave a comment by 12 noon, PST on Sunday, January 17th, and we’ll randomly choose a winner to receive a travel kit, which comes with a mini bar of shea butter soap in the Vanilla scent, and 1 oz. sizes of the body wash, body lotion, body oil, and hand lotion.

Good luck, and I know you’ll love the products!

Note: these products were offered as a press sample for us to review. Our reviews will always be 100% honest and upfront with our readers. If you have any questions, feel free to email us at [email protected]
