N.Y.C. Lippin’ Large Lip Plumper – A Review

By Sheila

Unable to resist any kind of drugstore lip product that is a) cheap ($3.99), b) from a brand I trust, and c) pink, I picked up N.Y.C.’s Lippin’ Large Lip Plumper in shade 472A, Strawberry Mousse while at Target on a diaper run.

Oh, those seemingly innocent trips for diapers at  Target! I always swear I’m there JUST for diapers, but something/s always  manage to catch my eye, and, well … the next think I know I’m writing a review about them!

Promising to plump , hydrate and soothe with cinnamon, ginger and Vitamin E, the gloss does impart a tingling sensation on the lips right away; it doesn’t burn, which is the good news. You know you’ve tried those lip plumpers (ahem, ahem, I’m talking about you Lip Venom) that make you feel like you’ve actually put some kind of radioactive chemical on yourself.

The color itself is gorgeous, and it indeed smoothes and feels moist on the lips. As for any plumping properties? I’m not so sure. Here’s a picture of me with just a regular, old lipbalm – you be the judge of that!

For the price, it’s a great buy, and I happen to love this particular color  … just don’t expect to have any major lip plumping action happening.

Have you tried any lip plumpers that actually plump the lips?

I remember buying DuWop Lip Venom and thinking I was all badass and pouty…HA!

I tried the Smashbox lip plumper (from a sample) and yea it worked, but it also made me look like a trout.

I’ve tried a few lip plumpers and none of them really seemed to do anything for me. I do love a great lipgloss color though. A few years back, I would buy a new lipgloss every single time I went to Walmart. And that was a few times a week. I’ve cut down a bit since then though.

It probably doesn’t help that Target puts their diapers so close to the cosmetics.
I don’t mind a little tingle in a lip plumper, but some of are downright painful. I had a bad experience with Superfill from Bath & Body Works. It felt like pins and needles pricking my lips. I wiped it off, but I continued to feel pricks for over an hour afterward. You better believe I returned that product, and I rarely return beauty products!

Looks like a pretty gloss :)

I’ll cry when the time comes that I actually need a lip plumper – I think I’d rather go get Restylane or something than deal with the pain of Lip Venom!

It’s crazy what lengths we’ll go to for any kind of claim that says we’re guaranteed larger lips! LOL ….

Deb – I tried that same lip plumper and it was the most terrifying experience of my LIFE. Up there with getting attacked by my cat mid-sleep.

Fusion Beauty’s LipFusionXL, however, is the best stuff in the world! It really recontours the lips and defines their shape. Bonus: only a mild tingling sensation – no fires of lipgloss hell! I definitely noticed a difference, and my lips are tolerably full to begin with.

Have you ever heard of Big Fatty Lip Plumper?
