Milani Eyeshadow Primer is one little tube of fabulous.
When I think about how far the makeup industry has come since the early days of my beauty obsession in the mid-1990’s, it’s a little bit shocking. Formulas have vastly improved, good brushes are a widely accepted thing, and, most importantly, we have eyeshadow primer! Back in the days when eyeshadow primer was something you had to actively seek or go without, it was some scary times.
Let’s talk about how I used to wear MAC Nylon or Stila Kitten eyeshadow from my lashline to my browbone on a daily basis. Without primer. Oh, the horrors. THE HORRORS!
Back then you either used a bit of foundation on your eyelids as a primer, but there were higher end brands that stocked early versions of eyeshadow primers, like MAC Paints, which came in little metallic tubes and were a complete revolution to me at the time. Those Paints that made my eyeshadow actually last blew my mind! Over time I moved on to MAC Paint Pots, then Urban Decay’s Primer Potion (which dries out my lids), Too Faced Shadow Insurance, and then recently discovered that drugstore budget friendly brands have come up to par and then some when it comes to eyeshadow primers.
Case in point, Prestige Primed & Ready, which I’ve been going steady with for well over a year. I think we’re serious by this point, but not serious enough that I won’t venture out to try new things. With nothing but positive things behind it’s name, I had to try Milani’s Eyeshadow Primer.
This is a flesh-toned primer that works extremely well and keeps your eyeshadow going for hours and hours on end. It’s flesh-toned, with no shimmer, and reminds me the most of Lorac’s Behind The Scene primer. This primer is very emollient, which is great for those of us who need eyelid skin support.
My Final Thoughts: Everyone who wears eyeshadow needs to use a primer beforehand to make sure your makeup lasts. Milani’s version is a solid performer that has the added bonus of being emollient and won’t dry out your eyelids.
