It’s happened: The low-end/high-end eyeshadow divide is officially gone thanks to the brand new Milani Bella Eyes Eyeshadows. Yes, the rumors around the beauty mill are true – these $4 gel powder individual eyeshadows are THAT good!
When I first started getting interested in makeup in the mid-90s, I remember the drugstore eye makeup options not being great whatsoever. Wet n Wild was still in their waxy lipstick stage and everything from CoverGirl and Maybelline just looked chalky on my skin. Back then I ran to prestige brands and stocked up on MAC Shadows, but today the tables have turned. And how!
Milani has been stepping up their game in the past few years and recently introduced brand new eyeshadows and nail polishes that get great raves all around the board. The only problem is that they’re not available in all retail locations just yet, and I ended up ordering three of the new Bella shadows online, which arrived within a couple of days.
Over the weekend I was at a Walgreens about an hour away from home and had the eyeshadow encounter I’ve been waiting on for weeks! Bliss! I found a partial display of the colors and I picked up four more colors. All swatches are done without a primer, which shows you how pigmented these gel shadows are!
These unique eyeshadows are start off as a gel and then are transformed to powders. They can be used wet or dry and come in iridescent metallic, shimmer, and matte finishes. The Bella Eyes shadows are remarkable for 3 reasons:
1) The price point is unbeatable. $4 is a fraction of the cost of any prestige shadow brand.
2) The color payoff is simply incredible. Saturated colors at this price point are a sure win.
3) The variety of colors available are pretty remarkable for a drugstore brand and I see several high end dupes on the get go.
My Final Thoughts: The 30 new Bella Eyes shadows are not crumbly at all, you don’t have to dig in the pan to get the color, and they are long-wearing without creasing. I see so many fun shadow combinations and plan on eventually picking up all of the shadows. Kudos, Milani!
