Lip balm stains have seemingly taken over the lip product category, and I think it’s a good, good thing. Brand new to your local mass market retailers this month are 20 shades of Color Whisper Lipsticks by Maybelline. Equal parts lipstick, balm, and stain, these gel-based lippies deliver shine, high pigmentation, and longevity.
Years ago I wondered what new, big thing could ever compete with lip gloss. As much as I love and cherish a shiny lip, who knew that a hybrid product of lipstick, balms, and stains would come around to grab our collective attention?
Out of a full display at my local CVS store I plucked out shade 85, Berry Ready, and have proceeded to fall deeply in love with this opaque and beautiful plum color.
These application and feel of Maybelline Color Whisper Lipsticsk is oh, so smooth. Once upon a time I had a coworker whose license plate said “Likbutr” and I’m not even kidding you that’s exactly how I feel about the texture of this lipstick. Like butter!
Between Revlon’s Lip Butters, L’Oreal Color Riche Lip Balms, and Maybelline Color Whisper, Maybelline and Revlon are the most similar to each other. Maybelline is a tad bit smoother than Revlon Lip Butters, in my makeup loving opinion.

Gorgeous shade. I was looking at these the other day and wanted to pick it up when they go on sale. I love Lip Butters, and since these are even smoother- it’s safe to say that I am in trouble!
I just purchased this yesterday in another shade and I’m very surprised/loving the texture.
I just got this yesterday in the shade “Lust for Blush.” Love it!!! Definitely similar to Revlon Lip Butters…so smooth and creamy!
