Things that have surprised me lately:
1. The end of the school year really crept up on me! A month to go for us, but how time flies!
2. My rapidly diminishing eyebrows. I am so thankful for brow products, because I don’t know where mine are going!
3. How much I really and truly like the Mary Kay Botanical Effects™ Skin Care line. This is good stuff!
I recently had the chance to try the Botanical Effects line by Mary Kay in Formula 3, which is a fragrance and synthetic dye-free line that is targeted for oily skin types. The products in this line contain antioxidants Silymarin and Luo Han Guo to protect and soothe skin, along with botanical ingredients White Tea Extract to purify and Guava Extract, a source of salicylic acid. The four-piece set includes:
– Botanical Effects® Cleanse
– Botanical Effects® Mask
– Botanical Effects® Freshen
– Botanical Effects® Hydrate
Botanical Effects® Cleanse ($14) is a nice basic cleanser that will not strip your skin. I found it completely removed even my eye makeup, which is always a good thing, although it does require a bit more elbow grease to get the job done.
Botanical Effects® Mask ($14) really wowed me. I love a good kaolin mask and this one fits the bill. I used this a couple of times during a particular hot spell we had locally and the mask helped refresh my skin and clean out my pores. I’ve been using this twice a week with no problems at all.
Botanical Effects® Freshen ($14) is a toner you spritz on a cotton pad before your lotion that’s supposed to improve the appearance of oily skin as well as tighten pores. I didn’t notice much of a difference, so if anything, this is one step you can skip. I’m not that much of a toner person, but this one did not irritate my skin, regardless.
Botanical Effects® Hydrate ($16) is a really lightweight and definitely hydrating lotion that lends a matte appearance to skin. This sunscreen-free lotion does not make my skin feel heavy nor any extra oiliness.
My Final Thoughts: I am honestly and truly impressed with my foray in to Mary Kay skin care. While the Freshen toner might be a superfluous step to some, the value on the 4 piece set is worth a try. This line also comes in Formulas that target Dry (Formula 1) and Normal (Formula 2) skin.
