Makeup Geek Eyeshadow Swatches and Review

By Sheila Arkee

After receiving and testing Makeup Geek’s 8-Eyeshadow Starter Kit and Color Expansion Kit recently, I had only two words to say: “Whoa, baby.”

Makeup Geek is a beauty website with tips, tricks, reviews, and video tutorials. The owner, Marlena, turned her passion for beauty into a business and developed a line of cosmetics that includes these exceptional and lemming provoking eyeshadows.

The paraben-free, talc-free, cruelty-free shadows are available individually at $5.99 and in two sets priced at $45 each. The Starter Set includes 8 matte and shimmery neutral shades while the Color Expansion Kit contains 8 bright colors.

The shadows come as a little pan that you can place in a separate palette such as the Z Palette, which is the best. The Z Palettes are magnetized pan that make metal pans adhere easily. Since I have an abundance of MAC 15-palettes I repurposed mine by lifting up the plastic separator, revealing a metal sheet that accomodates well over 15 shadow pans.

The Starter Set is a beautiful set of neutrals, perfect for anyone wanting to build a basic makeup kit.

Corrupt, Unexpected, Cocoa Bear, Purple Rain, Shimma Shimma, Purely Naked, Glamorous, Mocha

I found the mattes to be silky smooth and surprisingly blendable. The shimmers are truly impressive with pigmentation that knocks MAC out of the solar system. There are several straight up MAC dupes in these sets, and I have to say it’s about time!

The Color Extention Kit is just as nice, and I love the bold choice of colors. Red shadows are usually left out of the equation, so it’s good to see one here.

Moondust, Poolside, Razzleberry, Unicorn, Sensuous, Envy, Shimmermint, Chickadee

MAC makes their palettes a little differently – there’s a magnet on the back of MAC shadows so the palette itself isn’t magnetized.  To solve this problem I simply laid down some double-sided tape and all is well.

The Makeup Geek shadows are worth every single penny and them some. These are high-quality, highly-pigmented shadows that blend beautifully with a price that can’t be beat. You can purchase Makeup Geek shadows online.

I am afraid to buy MUG shadows because I know it will be a slippery slope and I will need them all. I think Razzleberry looks so fun. Have you used Dirty Martini? I love the look of the color, but I don’t see a lot of people talking about it.

I haven’t tried that shade, but it looks great! And yes, totally slippery slope territory! Don’t ask the many other readers who have been converted! lol

What colors did you use to create that orangy sunset eye make up in the picture above. The neutral starter kit..
