Makeup For New Moms. It Can Be Done!

By Monika Cancilla

When I first discovered that I was pregnant last June with my first kid, I vowed to myself that I’d never become a frumpy Mom. I wouldn’t succumb to wearing sweatpants out of the house. I’d shower. I’d wear heels, go to parties, and I’d do my hair and makeup every day, not to mention keep the house clean and keep working. “I’ll just work while she naps!” I said.

Ha! I’ll wait for you Moms out there to stop laughing and compose your self before I continue.

The first three months of my baby’s life is a blur, but somehow (thankfully) I managed to get into a morning routine, which involves a shower, putting on actual clothes, and a bit of makeup. I thought it might be helpful to share my secrets all of you Moms out there. Because you know what? You deserve to look AND feel good. I don’t know about you, but I just don’t feel put together if I don’t have my face on, and I refuse to feel guilty about this because a Happy Mom = a Happy Baby!

Thus begins my new series called “Beauty for the New Mom”. Today I will cover my makeup routine. I have managed to whittle the whole thing down to less than 5 minutes in the morning.

First, put baby in her co-sleeper, which is right next to my vanity. Put on some music and give her a pacifier. Tickle her belly.

Then, I look in the mirror and see this…yikes.

I get to work on those under eye circles with a few swipes of Maybelline Instand Age Rewind Concealer and blend it using a foam sponge.

Then I brush on Bare Minerals powder foundation all over my face.

I brush my eyebrows upward…

Pat on some cheek stain (this is Hourglass Cheek Stain in Flush)

Lips are key here. Any amount of lip color will wake up your face. These days I use Maybelline Color Sensational lip stain in Blushing.

Then I swipe on some L’Oreal Infallible Never Fail lip plumping gloss (Hi L’Oreal, can we come up with a longer name for this?) in Plumped Rose.

Just add a coat of Lancome Difincils and voila!

And…I’m ready to get the day started!

AND the baby is still happy!

You can be pretty sloppy with all of these products because of their neutral color, which is great if you’re running on limited sleep!

Great look :) I don’t have a child and getting ready for work on mornings can be so rushy.

Well done, mama! I’m the 40-something mother of a six-month-old (as well as two other kids) and definitely find that a little concealer and color on the face can do wonders. I don’t think there’s a single concealer in the world that can do it all by itself, but I like your approach — pretty, natural-looking, and efficient.

Thanks! I’ve always liked these products because of their efficiency.

    Hi Monika!

Great work! I appreciate your dedication to looking good–I feel similarly (even if my face doesn’t always show it ; ). Replenishing my Bare Minerals supply is at the top of my to-do list, and that Lancome mascara is one of my favorites!

    See you soon!

Hey you! I recently bought the Lancome Difincils Waterproof mascara and it is also amazing. Good for days at the pool!
