Make Up For Ever Eye Prime vs Too Faced Shadow Insurance

By Sheila Arkee

Make Up For Ever’s Eye Prime is a shadow primer that promised to help make your eye makeup last longer and look brighter.

This primer comes with a doefoot applicator and has a light formula that doesn’t feel drying on your lids – a lot more moisturizing than Urban Decay’s Primer Potion and even MAC’s Paint Pots.

The texture feels most similar to Too Faced’s Shadow Insurance, but I would have to say that this is even a bit lighter feeling.  The formula is a blend of minerals and waxes and is available in one neutral shade.

I tested Eye Prime against my current favorite shadow primer, Too Faced Shadow Insurance, to see which one went the distance.

I took these primers out for a run on a typical day in my life. My days with my son are busy and go go go, so this is the perfect way to test products which promise to keep your makeup on your lids and not running down your face.

Yes, that is sand on my face.

The Make Up For Ever Eye Prime indeed lasts and makes shadow vibrant, maybe even a little bit more than Too Faced. Considering how much running around in the sun and sand we did that day I’m amazed both lasted!

Make Up For Ever Eye Prime is available at Sephora.com

  • yay! so glad you did a review on this. i’ve used the UDPP religiously since i got a sample in the naked palette. i don’t love the new squeezy tube and i feel like the formula changed a bit (i’d love to know if it actually did or not). next time i run out, i plan on getting a different kind and i’ve been thinking of nars or mufe. thanks for the review!

  • What a great comparison!
