Love Stories and Lipstick

By Sheila

My name is Sheila, and I collect love stories.

When I make the acquaintance of someone new and learn that they’re in a relationship, my first question is always the same, “So, how did you meet?”

I just love love stories.

One that has stayed with me involved a man who snagged his gal through his clear understanding about the power of lipstick – I think you’ll love it, too.

After a long day that involved one too many mix-ups, my friend literally bumped into a spry young fella. Literally, meaning there was fender bender involved. She was irritated and not feeling her best, and yet he was persistent.

The next day she received a delivery of flowers with a $20 gift card to Nordstroms. On the card was a note that said something like, Jackie O said whenever she needed a lift, she would always buy a lipstick. Here’s $20, go pick out a treat.  [ed note – I *think* she said it was a Jackie O quote. Nevertheless, I have not been able to find this quote!]

That sentiment remained in my memory for years, mainly because it’s entirely true! There’s just something about a fresh tube of lipstick or lip gloss that makes you feel like anything is possible.

So, feeling in need of a boost the other day, I headed to my local MAC store with six plastic MAC containers in tow to take advantage of their Back2MAC program. You can exchange six of your glass or plastic MAC containers at any counter for a free lipstick, and even better, at any freestanding store for a lipstick, lip gloss, or eyeshadow. Your old products become store display units and plastic bags, and you go home with a shiny new color! Win, win situation all-around.

I left the store with a smile and a shiny coral lipstick called “Maid To Order” from MAC’s newest collection, Pret-A-Papier.

A lustre texture, it is sheer and glossy, and I see nothing wrong with both of those qualities.

Paired with MAC’s Whirl lipliner – a neutral berry tone – Maid to Order is a great way to bring in the Spring and Summer, one gleaming lipstick at a time.

Do you every buy yourself a little cosmetics treat when in need of a lift?

  • I used to buy lipglosses when I felt I needed a little extra joy in my life. Then my collection got too big, for the past year or so, I’ve been collecting nail polishes instead. So many different colors, and cheap too!

I usually buy nail polishes when I need a little pick-me-up. That’s not to say I don’t love me a new lipstick!

  • Thats gorgeous on you :D I find that eyeshadow and glitter have been my downfall lately, buying a really bright eyeshadow always cheers me up!

oh, I adore love stories too! I like to think my love story is worthy of a book or movie, hehe.
And that lipcolour is absolutely beautiful.

I have heard that quote and I think it was from Jackie O.

I am notorious for buying makeup to perk myself up….but I don’t really need a reason to buy make up.
