Inside this gorgeous, sleek, art deco-inspired golden packaging lies the most interesting mascara wand my eyes have ever seen.
Readers, please meet L’Oreal’s newest mascara, Voluminous Butterfly, which is possibly one of the best mascaras I have ever tried that costs under $10.
Much like the age old chicken or egg debate, there’s been a continuing wand or the formula question within the mascara industry. Is it the wand that makes your lashes fabulous, or is it the actual formula. I wager that it’s a bit of both, but in the case of Voluminous Butterfly mascara, I have to say the uniquely designed, 3-D plastic bristle brush has a lot to do with the results.
It’s quite a work of art, isn’t it?
I found this mascara fairly easy to apply, gliding on my lashes with no clumping, building with nary a concern. What I found is that you have to manipulate the wand a bit to get the desired results, so I applied with the wand at an angle, covering my lashes with the bristle and spreading them out with the backside. The application is not as easy as Benefit’s They’re Real, but I will say there are extremely comparable results.
“It’s revolutionary butterfly brush with asymmetrical lash line shape extends and lifts outer corner lashes to give you a winged-out effect, instantly volumizing lashes at the roots and stretching lashes outward. The unique cocoon fibers instantly wrap lashes in a soft, delicate veil to create silky, spectacular lashes that flutter.”
I completely agree. Here are my lashes with L’oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara.
And with makeup.
Here are my lashes with Benefit They’re Real.
And with eye makeup.
My Final Thoughts: Although you have to work the wand a bit, the results of this drugstore bargain buy are incredible. It’s a win … and then some! Benefit’s They’re Real still has my heart, but L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly comes in a very, very, very close second.
Price: Around $8
Availability: You can purchase this at your local drugstore, or online at Walmart.com.
