After reading a multitude of raves around the beauty blogosphere for Rimmel’s new Show Off Lip Lacquers, I did my part to participate in the hype and purchased this lip gloss/lipstick hybrid in Luna.
According to blogger Nouveau Cheap, The Show Off Lip Lacquers are a permanent addition to Rimmel’s range and are already available overseas where they’re known as “Apocolips”. There are a total of 14 shades available and while you’ll find them on special displays at the moment, eventually they’ll migrate over to the permanent display.
Rimmel Show Off Lip Laquers are pigment rich and have a lightweight creamy feel with a satin finish. Luna is a beautiful peach color that I found irresistible. Peach lippies aren’t always the easiest to find at budget-friendly prices – berries, pinks, reds, yes, but peach? That’ s a tough one!
To be completely honest, I was expecting a lot more from this highly touted lip product hybrid. When it comes to beauty products I’ve learned to listen to my gut feelings, and mine was the following: “This is not fabulous”. It’s nice, but it’s not great and definitely not a product I’m clamoring to purchase more of. To get the finished look in the upcoming photo required a lot manipulation that I just don’t have the time for when all is said and done.
While I can’t deny that Rimmel’s Show Off is packed with pigmentation, but the texture is so lightweight and with so little lasting power that I don’t see the point. My lips start flaking right away and I have to wipe away whatever product remains within an hour. While some might enjoy a lighter feeling lip, I like my glosses to be gleaming with that traditional “gloss” effect.
The verdict? At around $5, Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquers are a hard bargain to pass up, but they are just not my favorite things. However, if you’re looking for a lightweight liquid lipstick, you just might be in luck.
