After what seems like hearing a zillion raves about Epicuren’s Discovery Lip Balm with SPF 15, I had to chance it out for myself and see if this product could pack a better punch than my holy grail of lip conditioners, Carmex.
Carmex and I have been on the best of terms since I was a very young girl taken by the simple yellow and black packaging in a teacher’s makeup bag. Even back then I was a sucker for packaging.
I had intended to seek out Epicuren’s balm a while back, but reluctant to pay shipping charges for a product that cost under $5, and not really wanting to do the beauty product hunt down around town, it slipped right to the back of my mind until I spotted a display in a salon recently.
The balm itself is unique with a texture that isn’t waxy or hard at all, but somewhere in between a traditional balm and the lighter texture of a gloss you would find in a squeeze tube product. Although fortified with tea tree oil, it did not burn or irritate my lips at all. If you have sensitive lips, you may experience a little bit of irritation with the tea tree oil. The balm contains SPF 15, but there is no detectable sunscreen-y feel or taste, which is a plus. If you’re avoiding parabens, the balm does contain petroleum.
The balm itself has a smooth texture that glides on to your lips, leaving them feeling light and buttery in the morning when applied at night. In the daytime, this is actually a great clear gloss. If you’ve been considering this balm and are on the fence, I say splurge and try it out.
