Fresh pumpkins are making their appearance in supermarkets, pumpkin spice has taken over tastebuds which means one thing and only one thing – it’s glitter season. Oh, yeah!
It’s not officially Fall for a few more days, but we’re all in that Fall frame of mind right now. Halloween and costume season is upon us and it’s that time of year when we all get a little more experimental with our makeup looks. Many of us venture out to include glitter in our upcoming costumes or even our every day wear, which can mean several things: a) glittery glowing awesomeness abounds, as well as b) potential horrendous mess to deal with and clean up.
Never fear! There are several great options when it comes to wearing glitter, and today I’m going to show you a few products that will allow you to wear glitter without making a big mess!
First and foremost, I will tell you straight up that for maximum mess prevention I don’t recommend wearing loose glitter. Avoid it! However, if you do have your heart set on a particular loose glitter, apply a glitter primer like this one from elf Cosmetics before you do anything. Right after you’ve applied the primer, pat some glitter on to the desired location with a flat eyeshadow brush (check here for a few options) or the pads of your finger. The glitter pictured here is Amerikan Body Art Holographic Silver.
I also love and recommend Urban Decay’s Heavy Metal Liquid Liners, an excellent way to incorporate glitter into your makeup look without a mess. You can wear them by applying them on top of your eyeliner, or also put a bit in the middle of your eyelid. They dry down quickly and don’t budge!
From left to right the colors are Midnight Cowboy, Stix and Bones and Spandex.
Another option is the wonderful invention known as North Star Glitters – glitters that are pre-made with a mixing medium and are the best thing that have ever happened in glitter history. They are so easy to apply, there isn’t a lot of fallout at all and they’re not a pain to remove. I’m a huge fan of North Star Glitters – can you tell?
Here’s one of the Urban Decay liners swatched next to a North Star Glitters glitter. As long as you keep the jar tightly closed, they don’t dry out!
A new favorite glitter option for eyeshadow are the Pixi By Petra Liquid Fairy Lights . These liquid eyeshadows are stunningly gorgeous and STICK on your lids like nothing I ever expected. They’re also much lower priced dupes for Stila’s version!
