In the world of makeup, it is not uncommon to come across scores of extremely talented artists. However it’s not quite so often you encounter those individuals who possess not only the skill, but also a certain spark, a light, an energy that propels them by force into superstardom.
Nolan Robert, professional makeup artist and winner of Lifetime’s Blush reality show, is one of those rare talents.
One of my favorite expressions is “the proof is in the pudding” …all you have to do is look at a handful of photos in Nolan’s incredible portfolio to know that he is the real deal, and so entirely worthy of his winning title and reputation.
A sketch artist by education and a dancer in Broadway musicals by trade, Nolan fibbed his way into working behind a MAC counter in Santa Ana, California when he was in need of a job. Armed with sage advice from his mother, and knowing only Diva lipstick, Currant lip liner, and Cranberry eye shadow, Nolan went full force into his new career in makeup.
Nolan went from “putting Cranberry eyeshadow from lash to brow” on his very first customer, to earning a stellar reputation after spending time with fellow artists, learning and finessing his makeup application skills behind the counter, at weddings, and professional photo shoots.
After many years working with MAC in various capacities, Nolan took a huge risk and quit without having any kind of job guarantee as a safety net. He could have stayed with MAC for years, rising through the ranks, but he knew something more was out there for him. After spending a few months networking during the week by doing free photo shoots and making up brides on the weekends, Nolan received a phone call that literally changed his life.
All that hard work and networking paid off handsomely – the producers of Blush knew his name and reputation and he was asked to audition for the reality show. The rest … as they say … is history.
After Blush aired, Nolan spent time traveling with Max Factor as part of his contact, was a featured artist in InStyle Magazine, and has since developed a line of cosmetics that is now available on his website, http://www.nolanrobertcosmetics.com/.
Since coming up with the concept of long-lasting makeup with a high fashion edge in 2008, Nolan has poured his heart and soul into his namesake cosmetics line. Believe it or not, he even created the website on his own!
Formulated with the professional makeup artist in mind, Nolan’s products are equally assessable for beauty consumers. His products are blessed with his artistic touch, with a few completely unique products that are rapidly gaining buzz in the beauty industry.
Dream Cream is an illuminator with a gold pearl pigment that is packed with goodness. Dream Cream is lightweight, oil- and fragrance-free, age defying, light defusing, and enriched with Vitamin C and Ginko Biloba. After seeing that many illuminators on the market have a pink pearl, Nolan wanted a product with a champagne base that he could use and love himself with sheen, and not an overt glitter.
Erase It is very cool – a primer for both the eyes and the lips, it is waterproof with the texture of a concealer that makes your colors pop!
Diamond Dust powder is a translucent shimmer powder that doesn’t have a silver frost. The micro fine particles makes you look like you’re dusting on diamonds, and who can resist that?!
Nolan also loves his HD Gloss, with micro fine particles and a silicone base that gives is sheer and silky, not sticky at all! It’s also fragranced with strawberry and bubble gum – yum!
Full episodes of Blush are available on mylifetime.com. You can check out Nolan Robert Cosmetics on his website, www.nolanrobertcosmetics.com. Make sure to visit his first color story, Girls Night Out, which will be followed shortly by a color story inspired by his Hawaiian roots.
The take home lesson from Nolan’s incredible story? Take chances, leap for your dreams, and know that hard work and persistence always pay off.

I got a chuckle out of the thought of Cranberry eyeshadow applied from lid to brow. I went to this website, and the music was Siouxsie and the Banshees’ Kiss Them for Me. I love him already! Thanks for sharing.
Nolan is pure delight. Just a burst of sunshine. He didn’t know me when I saw him about 6 years ago, but when he came into the store I was working at, he just had the brightest, sunniest smile that I still haven’t forgotten.
I’ll have some more tidbits from him in the next week or so.
His work is amazing and so so creative!! I love love his products!! I have sensitive eyes and no eyeliner stays!! But, his eyeliners are fabulous!! And his painted wheel shadows stays all day!! Love it!!
Love Love his products!! I have sensitive eyes and his products are amazing!! He is extremely talented and very generous!!
Just having the courage to dream and choose to live inside one’s possibilities is inspiration enough for me. On top of that he is talented and seems like a genuinely nice guy. More power to you Nolan!
