Cosmetics Confessions: Your Preferred Lip Product Texture

By Sheila Arkee

Okay, ladies & gents, it’s time to dish. Pour the coffee, pull out the cheesecake tiramisu, we’ll be here for awhile.

When it comes down to lip products, I’d like to imagine myself as an equal opportunity consumer who  does not limit herself to one particular texture. However, when you get down to the nitty gritty I find myself gravitating towards all things glossy and on the heavy side. I like heft with my lips.

What about you? What lip textures do you prefer?

What a great topic to discuss! I don’t do glitter, sheer colors, or pale nudes. (how not-trendy am I right now??) I like pigmented, long-lasting color, pretty (corals, pinks, plums, bronzes) color. I mainly do lipstick (and I do love a bit of frost/shimmer!), but if I wear gloss, it is something with some oomph…like Chanel’s Glossimers or MAC’s lipglasses…but of course the more creamy/pigmented ones.

My one rule is no gloss – I cannot do sticky, and I can’t stand it if I drink something and get gloss all over it. My favorite is matte, but satin or creme lipsticks are also lovely!

I like good pigmentation but a semi-opaque finish, which means I’m in heaven these days with products ranging from Revlon Lip Butters to the really high end stuff. If I wear opaque, I like a satin finish and a buttery texture.

I do wear gloss, but I don’t like to glop it on. I prefer non-sticky, like Tarte’s glosses. I do really love the Gloss d’Armani which feels thick and sticky when you first put it on, but it pretty quickly feels less sticky, and it wears a long time.

    I love reading everyone’s responses!

I usually like sheerer things best. Mac Lustres and Glazes (hot tabiti and plumful are amazing), clinique almost lipstick, stuff like that. I will wear glosses too. I don’t like frosty lipsticks though I will wear a shimmery gloss. I haven’t ever worn a matte lipstick, I need to try.

I try to diversify, but always end up going back to glosses.

As long as its not gritty I’m happy.

Like Sarah, I try to branch out but always fall back on my glosses. I’m trying really hard this year to learn how to properly apply and wear more lipstick. I love the look, need the confidence! I haven’t tried the Lip Butters yet but I’m thinking I’ll prefer those– the semi-opaque comment intrigues me since I like a more natural look.

I love balms. Anything with a Vaseline like texture and some color is my favorite. I like Keihl’s lip balm.

Honestly, the only texture I don’t like is matte textures. That said, I love sparkly glosses and pigmented lipsticks with some shine to them (like MAC’s Creamsheen and Satin lines)

Long-wearing matte lipstick in dark, strong colours. I have about a billion but basically if I had a bright red, a jewel-tone red, a jewel-tone purple and a nut brown I’d be set for the rest of my life.

I do end up wearing all sorts, though, as I experiment a lot with different looks. The one thing I never ever wear is lip gloss. It lasts for nought point three seconds even if you don’t eat or drink anything. And it’s damned hard to smoke if the cigarette keeps slipping out of your mouth. And my hair sticks to it. I really don’t understand the *point* of lipgloss.
