Cosmetics Confessions: How Do You Blush?

By Sheila Arkee

Okay, ladies & gents, it’s time to dish at our weekly open post. Pour the coffee, grab some pumpkin pie,  we’ll be here for awhile.

Happy Black Friday, everyone! I’m curious to know how many of you faced the cold and crowds to get some great bargains. I have never experienced a Black Friday, but I’m awed by those who do. After my Thanksgiving gorge, I think it will take until next Black Friday to get on my feet again, but that’s another story!

Let’s talk blush. When I first started learning about makeup back in the olden days, I really didn’t see the point of using blush, rouge, or – as one aggressive sales lady said – “glow”. As time went by I came to appreciate and embrace the brightening, contouring power of a good blush. Right now I use both a cream and a powder blush, alternating depending on my mood or whatever look I’m going for. To really make thing pop, I’ll layer a lighter cream with a powder blush for major lasting power. I wrote more about blush in a Breaking Down Beauty from a while back.

Gone With The Wind was on tv this week and I remembered a  part from the book where Mammy was all sorts of scandalized when Scarlett O’Hara demanded a pot of rouge, in order to properly seduce Rhett Butler. How far we’ve come!

Cream, liquid, gel, or powder – what’s your preferred blush?

  • Danielle

I use both powder and cream, but prefer cream because I feel like it gives a more natural flush.

I use powder and liquid. I really love liquid blush!

Depends on the day, but I either use powder (Laura Geller Baked) or a liquid/gel stain (Hourglass Aura Cheek Stain or Pixi Gel Stain).

Mostly I use powder blush, but once in a while I’ll use cream, then powder over that. That’s strictly for long days where I want t look good for hours.

I like the new Revlon lip suedes as blushes. As lippies they’re meh, but on the cheeks they’re a whole other level of awesome.

I am a fan of Smashbox Cosmetics O-Glow Intuitive Cheek Color. I love the pink color of this blusher. My cheeks look so natural when I use this product.

    That’s a great tip, Wendy!!!
