Okay, ladies & gents, it’s time to dish at our weekly open post. Pour the coffee, pull out the cheesecake, we’ll be here for awhile.
I love Gwen Stefani, but when I read this quote in a recent article, it set off an alarm.
And Gwen wears her trademark red lipstick around her home: ‘I like to make my husband [Gavin Rossdale] like me more, and he likes it when I’m wearing makeup.’
To be fair, it’s been a loooooooooong time since I’ve had a significant other, so I really am not in the best position to answer this myself. Maybe I’m wrong, which could explain the non-significant o her part of my life, but I think you should do things because you enjoy it – go makeup free every once in a while if you want to. Gwen, I love your signature look, but it’s ok to break out a nude lip every now and then.
Do you do like Gwen and wear makeup for your significant other?

I find that I pretty much only wear it for myself. My husband could care less if I wear it or not. He likes to know that I feel good about myself and if wearing makeup helps, then great. But he doesn’t encourage me to wear it or expect it. Sometimes we joke that when I’m not wearing makeup it’s like I “took my glasses off.” It changes my whole face to wear it or not wear it. I’m ok with minimal or no makeup, but I just love putting it on and seeing a transformation on my face.
I like wearing make up for MY self. The hubby thinks it is stupid. He says by the end of the night I end up looking like a raccoon anyway (which i usually do),so why put it on just to smudge away? So no, my husband does not think I am more pretty when I wear makeup around the house. If I went to bed with bright red lipstick on he would probably burst out laughing:)I love putting on makeup in the morning, but I also am one of those people who will run in to target without any make up on either and not care.
Gwen often seems a bit… misguided, I’ve found. Damn was Tragic Kingdom ever a good album though!
I don’t wear makeup for my husband. I will doll myself if we are going out somewhere special, but that’s to fit the occasion, not specifically for him. I wouldn’t put on makeup just because I think he’d like me better if I wore it o_O
I definitely have never worn makeup for a man– I have only ever worn it for myself. As such, I definitely don’t wear makeup for my husband. He doesn’t really seem to care one way or another. However, when I am testing out new makeup for review– if I am wearing something out of the norm or that is particularly loud– he gives me a funny look and points out the obvious, “wow, that’s a bright lipstick…huh, you are wearing blush…uh, are you going out to a club—your eyes are really made-up?” It’s pretty funny!!!!!!!!
To be fair, she did say “I like to make my husband like me more” which would indicate she wears makeup at home because she enjoys it (or, enjoys the result it gets). So it seems she’s right in line with your opinion.
As for me? I wear it for me. Whenever, wherever, however. Period.
I wear makeup because I like makeup. I’m not one of those women who won’t let people, especially their SO’s see them without makeup.
That being said if it meant being married to Gavin Rossdale I’d tattoo my makeup on my face.
I, too, wear makeup for myself. I like to play with makeup and create looks for myself. My hubs doesn’t care one way or the other. He’ll tell me I’m pretty when I am wearing makeup and when I don’t have any on. I don’t think she meant her statement to be literal or 100% all the time.
I think my SO would prefer it if I wasn’t so into makeup, because then I wouldn’t spend so much time and money on it
@Wendy – Yes! Gavin was totally my high school crush.
Thu- oh mine too. I also had a weird attraction to Billy Corgan from The Smashing Pumpkins. No idea why.
My bff had the biggest crush on Gavin. Mine was Pete Sampras. Lolol
Trent. Reznor.
I think Trent and Gavin were my first, uh, “grown-up” crushes. Until then, I was totally a teenybopper crushing on Tiger Beat boys and it was all cute and innocent. Then I heard NIN’s “Closer” and was like, “Whoa.” And I saw Gavin on the cover of Details magazine with Shirley Manson (who was my girl crush) and was like, “Whoaaaa.”
Okay, sorry for the threadjack
I STILL want to be Shirley Manson when I grow up.
Mmm, Pete Sampras… He was my high school crush until I got a look at that hairy chest. I like a manly guy, but his chest hair was too much for me!
I can’t judge anyone else’ relationship, but I am happy that my guy likes me without make-up (or at least has enough sense to not say anything.) I still like to get done up, but it’s so much more fun if I’m doing it to look my best and not because I feel like I have to for him.
The hairy chest is what attracted me. Hahahahahaha!!!!!
I’m with you, Thu, on the time and money thing. That said, I do wear it only when I want to and feel like tackling the job of applying and potentially removing it. I do, however, spend a lot more time taking care of my complexion, and that he does notice, bless his heart.
