Cosmetic Confessions: Your Long Lost Favorites

By Sheila Arkee

Okay, ladies & gents, it’s time to dish. Pour the coffee, pull out the cheesecake, we’ll be here for awhile.

Earlier this week I was reminiscing about some of my past favorite products that have been delegated to the cosmetics graveyard. For whatever reason, these are products have been banished to the ends of the earth and we will never ever be able to use them again. Sadness!

Here are some of my long, lost favorites.

1. Max Factor 200o Calorie mascara

Oh, I could go on about the wonders of this mascara for years. It was truly fabulous and was one of my all-time favorites. Sadly, Max Factor products have gone the way of the dinosaurs in the States, but apparently they are available in various places online. I may have to indulge.

2. Ultima II Nakeds Collection

This was one of the lines that got me hooked on makeup to begin with! Designed by Kevyn Aucoin for Ultima II, it was some of the most gorgeous colors I’ve ever seen. My mom had a full set and I “borrowed” several pieces from her. I fully accept that at some point in my life I will have a child who will conveniently “borrow” all of my makeup. It’s just a matter of time.

What are some of your long, lost favorite cosmetics?

I miss Citre Shine :( and the ORIGINAL Rimmel Birthday Suit

  • Sheila – Painted Ladies

Citre Shine, yes! How could I have forgotten?

I loved the Ulitma II line! Also, have been meaning to tell you that I have recently found Max Factor here in Ecuador again. Whenever I come back to the U.S. (this summer, I think) will bring you back a tube of 2000 Calorie. :)

YEARS ago (like, probably 25 – I was in 5th or 6th grade), L’Oreal had a lipstick and nailpolish color called “Sky Blue Pink”. Very sheer pink with a bit of blue iridescence to it. I loved that color.

I have a L’Oreal nail polish that sounds similar! Definitely not that name, though.

I used Clinique Pinkberry Stain lipstick for years, starting in high school. It was a great color. Not sure it would appeal to me today, but it truly was a gateway product for me.

I still think my HG scent for shampoo was the original Herbal Essence in the bottle with the drawing of the lady with long hair and flowers in it. Runner up was Suave’s Clean Hair shampoo, which was also green and fresh smelling.

The Body Shop’s fragrance oil in Fuzzy Peach! Whyyyyy!

Estee Lauder Futurist Lipstick in Sultry Blush.
The most sexy greyed-out mauve. Anyone I put it on looked like they had these incredible lips.
