Dearest Readers, I am about to reveal to you one of my most favorite tricks for creating a flawless face.
Yes, really!
This small fan is part of a simple little trick I learned years ago that helps perfect your makeup application and ensure that your made-up face doesn’t have a powdery edge, and also lasts all day. This involves spritzing water-based substances on your makeup just as you’ve finished applying your foundation and setting powder.
The mere description of that act is counter to everything you have been taught about makeup application – I mean, why throw water at your face right after you’ve spent time and energy putting on makeup?
The secret all goes back to the contents the setting spray you are using. Different that merely using a spritzer full of water, setting sprays contain an ingredient with a slip. When misted over your face after you’ve completed makeup application, the spray melts your makeup just enough to make it look more natural. You can let the spray air dry, but if you use them in conjuction with a fan, the results are fantastic.
The best part about all of this is that there is no need to invest in expensive tools! The fan can be electric or hand held – even a piece of paper will work. As far as the setting sprays go, you can use a store-bought brand, or even make your own at home. It’s super simple, super easy, and the results are great. I have oilier skin, and this technique doesn’t make my face oily at all, but I do definitley get a bit of a glow going on.
My favorite commercial setting sprays are MAC’s Fix +, Josie Maran’s Argan Oil Spray, and Glo Mineral’s Fulvic Mineral Mist (which smells so good!).
If you’d like to make your own version, the most simplest recipe comes down to two ingredients: glycerin (a vegetable-based oil) and water. According to the amazing makeup artist Koren, mix 3 parts water to 1 part glycerin in a water mister, shake, and store the the fridge. You can add more ingredients if you want, but the glycerin is what really makes the magic happen.
If you end up using this trick, please report back!
Josie Maran and Glo Minerals products provided for consideration.

I’ll have to try this out! I use Fix+ at the moment so my face doesnt look too powdery but have been letting it airdry.
I want to try this. My skin is oily — VERY oily. Does this affect oil control throughout the day — make it worse?
Hi Angie! Try it with Scandinavia’s No More Shine spray – it truly works wonders!!! http://www.painted-ladies.com/save-face-with-skindinavias-no-more-shine-makeup-finish-spray/
