Breaking Down Beauty: A Soft, Smoky Eye Tutorial

By Sheila Arkee

Smoky eyes don’t always have to mean lids saturated with a dark shadow. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but here’s a really fresh, pretty approach to the traditional smoky eye technique. I’m going to show you how easy it is to achieve this subtle look – get ready to blend!

Step 1: Prime your lids with a shadow primer, and use a soft brown eyeliner to make a thick line along your upper and lower lids.

Step 2: Use a pencil brush and smudge the liner along your lids.

Step 3: Add a dark brown shadow on top of the smudged liner with a blending brush.

Step 4: Add a shimmery pink to your lids with a flat brush.

Step 5: Apply a highlighter shade to your brow and inner eye with a small, fluffy brush.

Step 6: Add another layer of liner with the same liner you used in the beginning. Top with mascara and finish with brows.

Done! A really pretty and simple take on the traditional smoky eye! I love this look because it’s easy and it’s a nice way to wear your colors without feeling overpowered by color.
