Recently I shared an easy, cheap, and effective way to keep your skin looking matte through a long day – Milk of Magnesia! Good ol’ MOM comes to the rescue and then some for oily skinned folk, helping to keep your makeup where it belongs – on your face – for extended periods of time.
When a tube of OC 8 Professional Mattifying Gel arrived in the September Glossybox, I was thrilled because its a product I’ve wanted to try forever and somehow never got around to picking up. OC 8 has been on best-of lists for years and contains ACRYSORB®, which has been clinically proven to control shine and redness for up to 8 hours.
So, here’s the question of the day – which works best? Would my dollar store bottle of Milk of Magnesia be able to stand the test against a $30 product? A little experiment was in order to find out. On half of my face I applied 0C 8 and on the other half a light layer of Milk of Magnesia before my foundation routine.
At the beginning of the day, here I am fresh as a daisy.
Here I am seven hours later, considerably more wilted than earlier in the day.
Winner? Clearly Milk of Magnesia saves the day with my skin looking impressively matte next to the side with OC 8. I have to admit I’m amazed my blush held on tight on both sides!
I’m glad I had the opportunity to try OC 8 in the last installment of Glossybox – now I can cross it off my beauty bucket list. You just can’t beat tried and true sometimes!

Nice! I just started trying Milk of Magnesia and it does work fantastic. A little odd to be putting on the face, but hey it works.
It great to see it compared to other primers
Wow! That’s awesome.
It’s a nice surprise.
I really need to try Milk of Magnesia.
