PL Reader: I’m thinking about doing this for the Day of the Dead festival. Any ideas on what I should use as the white base?

Nicole: MAC makes body/face paints that they sell at their Pro Stores called Chroma Cakes that work wonderfully. All you do is add water to the cake and apply with a makeup sponge or brush.
Also, since Halloween is upon us, go to any costume supply store and buy white face paint in one of those little wheels. These colors don’t last as long as the Chroma Cakes, but the price point is better than the MAC product.

One recommendation is to use the purple “corrector” in a palette of concealer. This covers better, and when fully on gives a chalky white appearance, and is great as a base when powdered (you can use translucent powder, kaolin clay, etc).
Aelwyn – your comment was #666! Kinda spooky!!!
Thanks! This helped me with my makeup for Halloween!
Hello ! I have a comment, I am the makeup artist that did that day of the dead photo:) you should use ben nye white cream with a heavy white powder, stipple don’t swipe ….Good luck!
Hi Brittany,
This has been my favorite dia de los muertos makeup EVER! What did you use for the black? Would this face last an entire evening?
Thanks!xo
Use Mac black fluid line and Palladio wet liner, use a setting spray after the cream is set with powder when I do these they last 8hours+
