Are CoverGirl’s Lip Perfection Lippies A Drugstore Delight?

By Sheila Arkee

After hemming and hawing over CoverGirl’s new Lip Perfection Lipsticks for quite some time, I finally took the plunge and walked away with a tube of these highly lauded lippies during a recent CoverGirl sale at CVS.

Although I’ve heard nothing but good things about these lippies, the reason I was so indecisive is that I really hate the fact that you can’t try on the shades before you buy. Frustrating! This sincerely irks me because I hate the idea of walking away with something you just don’t like or doesn’t even look good at you … especially with foundations.

With that being said, I found the display to be ingenious. With 44 shades, they’re separated into categories, which is a good way to eliminate a bit of the guess work.

The containers are sleek and square, an elegant touch for these lipsticks. I brought home #405, Fairytale, and found it to be a gorgeous shade of rose.

The Lip Perfection lipsticks don’t carry a strong scent and as far as the texture goes, I like the feel of the lipstick best when worn with a a balm underneath for a satin texture. When worn alone it feels like a non-drying semi-matte. I was impressed with the wear of the lipstick when worn both ways, finding that the lipstick stayed on without feeling crumbly and actually sticking around pretty well after I ate.

With a great range of colors and impressive wearability, the Cover Girl Lip Perfection lipsticks are definitely worth checking out. However, I will say that the honor of my most favorite drugstore lipsticks still belongs to Revlon’s Colorblast, as I found they have a little more moisture than Lip Perfection, which is my personal preference.

I have their Fairytale and also Hot, and I actually like them. It was a good buy for the price, since I picked them up cheap online when I needed to add a couple more bucks to my cart for free shipping. :P They stay well, and I actually don’t mind the texture. I find it to be comfortable to wear, not drying while also not greasy feeling. It was a good way for me to test out a nice spring pink.

I absolutely love these…even more than (gasp) MAC lipsticks. I’ve collected about 10 at this point and will definitely be buying more. One tip I can add since I’ve bought so many is to really be weary of the color at the bottom of the tubes. The actual lipsticks are a tad bit darker than what you see in the tube and if there’s any sort of shimmer or sparkle (even a little!), be sure that the lipstick itself will be shimmery and sparkly. I learned that the hard way.

Good to know, Leslie! The recent batch of lippies in the drugstore are giving dept. store products some fierce competition. :)
