Oh, olive oil, you’ve saved my skin (literally) on many on occasion! Olive oil is one of my essential beauty tools for many reasons.
Reason #1 - It ever so gently and effectively helps get built-up makeup out of makeup brushes. You know those times when you just can’t seem to get a foundation or gel liner out of your brushes regardless of how many times you wash your brushes? That’s where olive oil comes to the rescue.
I place a bit of olive oil in my hand, swish the brush around, and proceed to wash the brush with a gentle cleanser. Baby shampoo does the trick!
The olive oil totally breaks down the makeup and keeps your brushes in tip top shape. Trust me, I am totally abusive to some of my brushes!
Reason #2: Best eye makeup remover EVER!
Remember my post about E.L.F.’s Makeup Remover Pads? They left my eyes feeling irritated, as evidenced by this photo right here.
Here’s what happens when I use olive oil as a makeup remover, as evidenced by pretty much the most unflattering photo I’ve ever posted here on Painted Ladies.
Wipe away with an unscented baby wipe.
Dab eye with a damp wash cloth.
Voila. No residual makeup, and zero irritation. Love it!
Do you have any cheap makeup tips to share?

I use Vaseline as an night eye and lip treatment. Apparantly, so does Tyra!

I try to use Olive Oil about once a week to clean my face at night. I have oily skin but have not issues with using it.
Vaseline is a wonder tool – I love Aquaphor, as well!
Jolene- same here. Normal to oily skin and never a problem with breakouts.
Agreed! I love olive oil for so many reasons (including eating
it’s also great for softening up rough patches on the body.
I also use it as an eye makeup remover and sometimes to get off lipstick and the other gunk. It works great and is totally cheap. When I’m traveling and don’t want to carry so many bottles, I just bring a small bottle of jojoba oil for moisturizing, makeup removal, etc.
It really is quite a wonder! I love putting it in tiny bottles as well, for traveling.
I turned my mom on to aquaphor as a lip treatment the other day.
She’s not sure how she went 54 years without it.
How *did* she ever go so long without it? I’m glad she’s loving Aquaphor!
So much that she refuses to give my tube back.
I use generic (my current bottle is CVS’ brand) Vitamin E oil (safflower oil & tocopheryl acetate) as eye makeup remover … and patted around my eyes as wrinkle-prevention (*ahem* moisturizer). Oil-slick skin and nary a problem!
CVS Brand is actually really great quality!
LOL I love your olive oil eye makeup remover photo XD so cute
I’ll have to try olive oil on my foundation brushes, Revlon Colourstay is not kind to them!
I’ve also used olive oil to soften up some stiff and scratchy brushes before
LOL … I have no shame!
I use Vaseline as a lip treatment and also to remove my eye makeup….. Certainly i well try your idea
Instead of olive oil I love using Virgin Coconut oil and wipe off with water. But I will try the idea with the baby wipes
That’s a good idea!
