The Makeup Show L.A., Part One

By Sheila

I am floating on air right now. Let me just say it, The Makeup Show L.A. was all kinds of AWESOME.

While I’ve been to beauty trade shows before, this was the first exclusive makeup show I’ve attended and it was a makeup junkie’s dream come true.

The show is geared towards makeup artists, but luckily for everyone, I got some hot scoop on the latest and greatest products and current trends from many new and existing makeup lines.

I also met some amazing people who I’ve talked to via this blog but have never met, which I absolutely loved. The thing about makeup junkies? We’re very loving people. Everyone I met was so nice and accommodating and I have nothing bad to say about anyone!

The day was intense, so the recaps will have to be spread over a couple days. Today’s recap will be a general overview, and then tomorrow I’ll get to the meat of the show, the products!

There were two big trends that I saw happening – multi-functional products and foundations that mimic the skin. These two things were emphasized by pretty much every company I had the chance to talk to.

Held at the penthouse of the California market, the show is in the heart of LA’s fashion district. If you’ve never been to this part of Los Angeles, you must visit at some point. It’s craziness, but it’s a great adventure and never, ever boring.

The show consisted of booths where you could purchase makeup at highly discounted rates, seminars, and private lessons with pro makeup artists.

Stepping onto the show floor, I headed straight for the makeup companies. More on what I saw tomorrow, but here’s a sneak peek at some of the products I saw.

I also saw THIS gem at one of the airbrushing booths. Ahem.

And then later on in the day happened to walk in his direction yet AGAIN! Ahem, ahem.

Moving on to the seminar areas, I peeped in to see Crystal Wright speak and let me tell you, she is amazing. Just amazing. Dynamic and informative, there is a reason why she has earned her reputation as a beauty industry guru.

Looking around the audience, I noticed someone familiar … could it be him? THE Daniel Chinchilla, all-around awesome person who I’ve talked to online forever and yet have never met?

It was! Such a sweetheart with amazing skin, to boot!

Walked around a bit more, and who do I bump into? Famous beauty guru KOREN

I was more than a little starstruck, but let me say he was awesome! So sweet and he was nice enough to let me take a photo with him.

Do you see the crazy in my eyes? I was THAT excited to see him and didn’t even care that this was my bad angle. “Koren? Hi! I love you! Can I have a picture with you? Thank you, Koren!!! ”

Right before leaving, I visited the semi-private lessons and witnessed James Vincent give some incredibly useful advice to the makeup artists who were participating.

Coming tomorrow, some amazing new discoveries! There are some really great and innovative products about to hit the market and I’m so excited to be able to share them with you!
