‘Tis the season for chapped lips? Time for Lip Balm Week!

Just a few of the week's contenders...

By now you all have to know I’m obsessed with lip balms, and for good reason, too.  I definitely have my favorites, which I’ve reviewed here, but even with some of the best lip balms, my lips have still been cracked, split, chapped, scabby and just generally ugh.  No joke – my first grade school picture is a nice shot, until you see the big, red scab on my top lip in the 8 x 10″.  To say this has been a lifetime battle is not an exaggeration.  It’s hung on longer than acne!

So, in an effort to wade through the plethora of products out there and find something that works, I thought it would be a good time to introduce “Lip Balm Week”.  All week long I’ll be reviewing low-end to higher-end lip balms, breaking them down by category and offering my humble opinions on each one.

I hope some of you will benefit from this.  I’ve amassed a ridiculous amount of balms and they need to be put to good use!

Basically, here is how I will break down each review:

  • Price
  • Moisture level (rated from 1 being the lowest to 3 the highest)
  • Scent
  • Flavor
  • SPF?
  • Color?
  • Texture
  • Is it organic?
  • Irritating ingredients? (Some say that camphor, phenol and menthol actually irritate lips rather than soothe them)
  • Packaging/applicator
  • Good for day or night?
  • Is it an absolute must-have?
  • Availability
  • Summary of my overall opinion of the product

Hopefully this will help you guys take the guesswork out of picking out a good lip balm for yourselves, and maybe even help some of you avoid the painful dry lips you might have each fall and winter.

Stay tuned!

Hey Taryn do you still use Tarte FRXtion lipbalm/scrub? I was rooting thru my stash the other night and found it….I had a few flakies on my bottom lip. So I applied a thick coat right before bed and in the AM my lips were perfection.
It’s safe to say that when this is gone I will be re-purchasing….it’s pricey to be sure but worth it IMO.
As a fellow lipbalm junkie I am looking forward to reading your lipbalm reviews this week!

D, this is too funny because guess what is my first review for lip balm week? You guessed it! Watch for the review today.

It’s good, but it’s not my HG anymore. My lips are just too dry to be totally repaired by it, but it sure does help a lot and it tastes terrific, so I keep repurchasing!

  • You sooo need to try Aromaleigh’s lip balm. It quickly became my HG.
