Some of the most powerful ingredients in your beauty routine can be found in the most unlikely of places, including your kitchen cabinet! Honey isn’t just a delicious way to sweeten your drinks and food, it’s also a powerful antioxidant, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory ingredient that nourishes our skin.
Bees have been hard at work for eons creating this vitamin-rich liquid gold that is useful for so many purposes. The healing benefits of honey are no secret – writings from thousands of years ago detail how it was used to care for internal and external ailments.
There are a lot of fun ways to include honey in your skincare and beauty routines. Here are five of my favorites.
Mask It Up
Not only can you use honey on it’s own as a mask (use a thin layer, rinse after 15 minutes), but you can also mix it with other ingredients for a gentle yet powerful pore cleanser. I mix equal parts manuka honey with Aztec Secret Mask and apple cider vinegar and it makes my skin look fantastic. The texture isn’t sticky at all and you can change the thickness based on how much vinegar you add. Bonus tip – I also put some of the mask on my scalp. This is definitely on the messy side, FYI.
Smooth Your Lips
You can use honey on its own as a lip moisturizer. Also, mix it with a bit of raw sugar to exfoliate your lips.
Dab a bit of honey on a blemish overnight and watch it heal up before your eyes. Make sure to use a pillow case you’re not afraid to get a bit messy!
Mix honey with sugar and smooth it all over your skin before showering. The results are smooth, not sticky, skin that smells incredible!
Soothe A Sun Burn
Mix equal parts and aloe vera and apply to affected areas for quick relief from burns. I do keep on top of my sun protection, but in the case I miss a spot and burn, this really does help.
