Now that Summer is winding to a close, does it automatically mean you have to put the shimmer and glitter away when it comes to your makeup life? Much like not wearing white after Labor Day, I think it’s an outdated notion! A good glow works any time of year and sometimes keeping things on the subtle side of the makeup application street can make quite the powerful impact. It’s not as much as having loads of glitter on your face (not a bad thing, but there is a time and place!), there are understated ways to incorporate shimmery highlighting products into your makeup routine to keep things simmering with an undeniable lit-from-within glow.
Tip 1 – Mix A Liquid Highlighter In With Your Foundation
Even if you have oily skin this trick works! I promise it won’t make you look like a shiny disco ball. It won’t! Just the smallest dab of liquid highlighter (teensy tiny!) mixed in with your typical everyday foundation yields a lovely and subtle glow. If you’re scared of having highlighter all over your face, dab liquid highlighter over the high planes of your face (cheekbones, middle of nose, middle of forehead) and set with a powder.
Tip 2 – A Little Shimmery Eyeliner Hurt No One!
Eschew the pencil and liquid eyeliners and reach for a shimmery eyeshadow, like what I did right here. I’ve been using this technique tons lately and I have to confess I’m loving it. It’s a very easy and pretty way to incorporate some glow to your eye makeup looks.
Tip 3 – Skip Powder And Go For A Cream Blush
A little cream blush on sandwiched on top of your foundation and underneath a powder goes a long way! I love the ease of cream blush and the fact that it does lend that lit from within glow that looks oh so natural and fresh. I’m digging the middle shimmery purple from the Natasha Denona Mini Lila palette for this very purpose.
Tip 4- Accent Your Eyes With Cream Eyeshadow
Over the past few weeks I’ve been digging my cream eyeshadows, especially on those days I don’t have a lot of time to spend on my eye makeup. A wash of ColourPop Amaze (a shimmery champage) or a dash of the Pixi Liquid Fairy Lights on my lids does just the trick! Another way I love to wear cream eyeshadows is on the inner corner of my lids – it adds a bit of light that is so lovely with any eye look.
Tip 5 – Gloss It Up
After so many years of matte lip color appreciation I’m leaning towards glosses a lot more these days. There’s just something to be said for a glossy lip!
