Picture it: It’s 2002, and in Downtown San Francisco, a young Marketing Assistant has made her twice-weekly lunchtime dash to Macy’s Union Square from her office located across town on Sansome and Market. If you’re familiar with SF, you’ll know that was a lot of fancy footwork on my side to be able to get to Macy’s and back to work on an hour lunch. I don’t know how I did it, but I knew I needed to get my makeup fix.
I used to make my rounds by all the makeup counters — Laura Mercier, MAC, Benefit, and on this particular occasion, I made a friend at the Lorac counter.
“You MUST try this shadow – it’s gonna make your eyes look like J. Lo!”
Back then, J. Lo was the magic word whhen it came to makeup, so OF COURSE I took that shadow home. It’s Serenity by Lorac, and I’m pretty sure I’ll always keep it in my makeup kit.
And, as a postscript to my story — I ended up working at that Macy’s about a year later. Life was short, I figured, and I had to pursue my dreams of makeup artistry!

I’m really loving your 365 Days of Eyeshadow series. This is such a great neutral eye and it’s totally J. Lo but somehow I feel like I could wear it to work…
Why thank you! This eye is so versatile — pop some darker color in the crease, and it’s a great for a night out.
