3 Products Under $10 That Saved My Nails

I Bought It

By Sheila Arkee

As we are nearing the end of 2013, I have to make mention of my biggest beauty accomplishment: this is the year I finally got my act together with my hands and nails!  After a life of peeling nails, horrible hangnails, and never being able to pull off a decent nail polish swatch, I got serious. To make this chance,  I invested in three products under $10 each that have transformed my nails unlike ever before.

Breaking Down Beauty Nail Care Tips

The biggest change has come from Nailtiques Formula 2 Plus.

Nailtiques Formula 2 Pus

Nailtiques Formula 2 Plus is a treatment that contains hydrolized keratin, protein. gelatin, and calcium and dries on your nails like a base coat. It’s designed to bond the layers of your nails together, which is what helped my peeling nails so much. Initally you apply a layer every day, and then as your nails improve you apply a layer every other day. When you’re ready to wear polish again, this is a fantastic base coat that keeps your nails in check.

To keep my naturally raggedy cuticles in check, I rely on Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream.

Burts Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream

Besides smelling incredible, Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream keeps the skin around my nails moisturized, which is key to maintaining a supple, hangnail-free cuticle.

I slather this stuff on morning, night, and after every time I wash my hands. The results are worth my devotion to these efforts, and I am well-pleased. The ingredients that make this happen are Sweet Almond Oil, Lemon Oil, Beesway, Cocoa Butter, and Vitamin E (this is not a gluten-free product).

Finally, I picked up a pair of cotton gloves to wear at night after saturating my hands with Aquaphor. Besides making my hands feel silky, these gloves keep me feeling warm and toasty at night, so no complaints about that!

No more peeling. No more hangnails. And it feels amazing. I’m still working pulling off a decent nail polish swatch, but there is hope!

You can find Nailtiques Formula 2 Plus ($9.50) and Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream ($5.99) at Ulta. You can find cotton gloves ($2.79) at Sally’s Beauty Supply.

I’ve found that using a cuticle oil before bed really helps my hangnails. I was using Solar Oil, but when that ran out I just refilled the bottle with jojoba oil. It works wonders. I am currently growing out my nails from a summer of acrylics (horrible!) so I will check out the Nailtiques! My nails are sooooo mad at me right now. Thank you, Sheila.

Thanks so much for sharing! I bit my nails from age 2-16 and they’ve been damaged tremendously. I now have peeling nails and hangnails as well that my habit had transferred over to picking at them. I’m definitely going to pick these up!

I need that Nailtiques, my nails peel like no other if I let them get too long!

You are welcome! I had the same problem with acrylics years ago and Nailtiques helped out tremendously!

Thanks for these nail product recommendations! I need to get my own cuticles in check ^_^

I was just picking at my hang nails (bad habit). I’ll have to look out for the Burt’s Bees cuticle cream. Thanks for the suggestion!

I’ve just started using Nailtiques but will definitely check out that cuticle cream next! I don’t know about the gloves at night though…we’ll see! Your nails look great 😀
