Last year was a remarkable year in my life for the simple reason that I finally got my nail care under control. After a lifetime of hangnails, breakage, and overgrown cuticles, this was quite an accomplishment! One important lesson I learned is that it doesn’t take a nail salon intervention to curate nice nails.
As much as I love being pampered at a salon, sometimes I just don’t have the time to treat myself. So, I’ve been using a few easy techniques that I picked up along my nail care journey that have taken my manicures and pedicures to the next level.
1. Cuticle Erasers Are Genius
To trim, or not to trim? That’s one important question that is really up to you. Having an excess amount of skin, I always trim my cuticles with a nipper and it’s something that’s made easier with the use of an AHA-enriched cuticle eraser. This product helps exfoliate and soften cuticles and makes them much easier to snip away.
2. Cap Your Nails
This trick made a huge difference in the longevity of my nail polish. I had no idea what capping your nails entailed until I received a gel polish kit that had this technique as one of the steps. What this means is adding a bit of polish to the very tips of your nails.
I do this first and then proceed with the rest of my polish. I also cap my nails with top coat and have found this helps extend the life of my manicures. Tip wear isn’t so much a problem anymor!
3. Dry Your Nails Faster With Cuticle Oil
Are you a victim of fresh nail polish smudging? Yes, I am, too. However, it’s possible to make this a thing of the past when you seal your nail polish with a touch of cuticle oil.
Wait a minute or two after finishing your nail polish with a top coat and add a teensy drop of a cuticle oil, or any other oil like DermOrganic’s Pure Argan Oil. Your nail polish will dry faster and you’ll have the bonus of moisturized cuticles.
